What began with deck boxes, sleeves, and binders quickly grew into an international success story

A Strong Start and a Major Breakthrough

The defining moment came in 2014 with the introduction of the Flip’n’Tray deck box. With its modular design, magnetic closure and distinctive Xenoskin surface, it set new standards and was the first big step towards establishing Ultimate Guard as a leading brand of premium TCG accessories in the industry.

From that point on, the brand continued to grow - with products that perfectly combine functionality, craftsmanship, and design.

Milestones and cult products

Over the years, Ultimate Guard has shaped the market with a number of iconic products:

Katana Sleeves (2018):

Premium sleeves ‘Made in Japan,’ known for their tournament quality, opacity, and durability - offered in Standard, Japanese, and Inner Sleeve versions.

Flip’n’Tray (2014):

A signature product with a strong magnetic closure, practical tray design, and compartments for cards and dice - remaining one of the brand’s bestsellers and a cornerstone of the Ultimate Guard range.

Return to Earth (since 2021):

A sustainable product line made from up to 97% renewable resources, developed and produced in Germany. In cooperation with OneTreePlanted, Ultimate Guard plants trees daily since the line’s launch.

Sidewinder, Omnihive, Arkhive, Boulder:

One of Ultimate Guard‘s biggest strengths has always been practical, modular design. Iconic deck boxes like the Sidewinder and the Boulder (which are the foundation for the sub-brand Squaroes) are designed to fit perfectly into mass storage boxes such as the Omnihive and Arkhive.

Not every idea was an instant success - for example, the Monolith series faced material challenges but was later reimagined as the improved Boulder’n’Tray. Even such setbacks became valuable lessons on the brand’s path of constant evolution.

Licenses, creativity, and new worlds

2024 marked a true milestone year for Ultimate Guard, fundamentally transforming the company and placing not only functionality but also aesthetics and self-expression at the forefront. While Ultimate Guard had already held an EMEA-only Magic: The Gathering license in 2018, the newly established long-term global licensing agreement with Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast elevated the partnership to an entirely new level. This milestone made it possible to feature the spectacular artwork from Magic: The Gathering across Ultimate Guard’s product range. Today, nearly every major release from Magic’s multiverse is accompanied by Ultimate Guard’s high quality accessories - complemented by timeless designs inspired by the rich history of one of the world’s most beloved trading card games.

However, the Magic: The Gathering collaboration was not the company’s only big achievement in 2024. Shortly thereafter, Ultimate Guard announced a new sub-brand, Squaroes, which combines the company’s proven, highquality materials with some of the biggest franchises in pop culture. These TCG deck boxes are collectibles in their own right, featuring limited-edition releases with characters from SpongeBob SquarePants, The Lord of the Rings, Avatar: The Last Airbender, South Park, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and many more.

Here, trading card accessories become an expression of personality, passion, and fandom.

Design and Sustainability in Transition

The distinctive Xenoskin surface remains a hallmark of Ultimate Guard’s design - robust, durable, and instantly recognizable - featured across many product lines like the Flip’n’Tray and Sidewinder.

With the Return to Earth family including Squaroes and the new Coral Places Sidewinders, ecological responsibility and premium quality go hand in hand, protecting both cards and the, planet. FSC-certified grass-paper packaging and local production also set new standards for sustainability.

Beyond sleeves, the brand is extending its design innovation to other product categories. With product lines like Floral Places or fully printed Boulders, Ultimate Guard brings vibrant, detailed artwork to its iconic deck boxes. These products represent the next stage in the brand’s evolution - merging function, emotion, and aesthetics to transform storage into true self-expression.

From Function to Emotion

Ultimate Guard’s evolution is guided by a clear ambition: to move beyond functionality and create products that inspire emotion, creativity, and connection within the trading card community. Every product is meant not only to protect but to express individuality and fandom.

‘We’re not just selling functionality - we’re creating emotions and experiences that resonate deeply with our customers.’

New collaborations with artists, bands, and major licensors underline this approach. Whether with Magic: The Gathering, music acts like I Prevail, or influencers from the TCG scene - Ultimate Guard increasingly connects gaming, pop culture, and lifestyle.

What are we known for…

More than ever, Ultimate Guard stands for creativity, community, and self-expression - where protection meets personality, and function meets emotion.

Looking Ahead - 2026 and Beyond

Ultimate Guard’s outlook for 2026 is filled with creativity, collaboration, and continued innovation.

The partnership with Magic: The Gathering continues, with new themed accessories in development to accompany upcoming set releases. In addition, first collaborations with major anime franchises and a leading streaming platform are on the horizon.

The Squaroes line will expand with new franchises, collector editions, and a stronger emotional focus, celebrating fandom and artistic expression.

Sustainability remains key: the Return to Earth (RTE) range will be extended to new formats and material combinations, uniting eco-conscious design with premium quality.

By 2026, Ultimate Guard and Squaroes aim to represent more than accessories - a lifestyle built on creativity, self-expression, and the shared spirit of fandom.
